Vertex Q1 earnings and revenues beat analyst expectations


Vertex's first quarter report showed results above analysts' expectations. Earnings per share were $3.05 and total revenue was $2.37 billion, beating Investing.com's forecasts of $3.03 per share and $2.34 billion in total revenue. Despite this, Vertex shares fell 1.01% after the market closed to trade at $341.51. This year, Vertex shares are up 19%, slightly worse than the average of the Nasdaq 100 index, which is up 20% over the same period.


Other companies in the healthcare sector are also performing well this year. For example, UnitedHealth reported earnings per share of $6.26 and total revenue of $91.9 billion in the first quarter, beating earnings per share of $6.17 and total revenue of $89.71 billion. Also, J&J's first-quarter earnings beat analysts' expectations with quarterly earnings per share of $2.68 for total earnings of $24.7 billion, while Investing.com analysts had forecast earnings per share of $2.5. total revenue of $23.61 billion.
